Martyn Brabbins

Currently chief conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Martyn Brabbins has been associate principal conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (1994–2005). He studied conducting with Ilya Musin in Leningrad, and won first prize at the 1988 Leeds Conductors’ Competition. Since then Brabbins has regularly conducted all the major UK orchestras, and appears annually at the BBC Proms. He is much sought-after in Europe, and in the Far East and Australasia. Brabbins is a regular guest at the Netherlands Opera, Opéra de Lyon and Frankfurt Opera, among others. He has conducted hundreds of world premières and has close links with many of today’s foremost composers. Brabbins has an extensive discography of works ranging from contemporary to Romantic repertoire.
