Thomas Dausgaard

Described as ‘a conductor of rare conviction and insight’ by the Daily Telegraph, Thomas Dausgaard is renowned for the rich intensity of his performances and the remarkable results he has achieved as chief conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Since taking up his position in 1997 he has brought the ensemble to international attention. An extensive recording activity includes the series ‘Opening Doors’ on BIS, in which the team breaks with the traditions surrounding a chamber orchestra, performing large-scale orchestral works of the romantic era. With Dausgaard’s drive to bring the orchestra to new audiences, the SCO has furthermore toured throughout Japan, the USA and Europe, including concerts at the Salzburg Festival and the BBC Proms, where the orchestra is a regular guest.

Since the 2011–12 season Dausgaard has been conductor laureate of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, which developed impressively under his leadership. As a guest conductor he visits some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, and appears regularly in North America, with such ensembles as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Thomas Dausgaard has been awarded the Cross of Chivalry in Denmark, and is a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music.
