The violinist Pekka Kuusisto is internationally renowned for his fresh approach to the repertoire. Kuusisto performs with major orchestras across the world, including the Seattle, Cincinnati, Finnish Radio and BBC Symphony Orchestras, Los Angeles and Oslo Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Scottish and Mahler Chamber Orchestras and Philharmonia Orchestra, to name a few. He has also appeared at London’s BBC Proms and the Edinburgh International Festival.
Widely recognized for his directing work, he is artistic director of ACO Collective, artistic partner with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and ‘artistic best friend’ with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. A keen chamber musician, Kuusisto makes high-profile appearances at venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Advocating new music, Kuusisto collaborates frequently with composers such as Muhly, Bjarnason, Adès and Hillborg. Artistic director of the award-winning ‘Our Festival’ in Finland, Kuusisto is an improviser, electronic musician and folk fiddler, engaging with people across the artistic spectrum. Following his world première performance of Sebastian Fagerlund’s Violin Concerto with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kuusisto’s recording of the work (BIS-2093) has been released to widespread critical acclaim.
