Bram van Sambeek is the only bassoonist to have received the most prestigious Dutch award in the field of music: the Dutch Music Prize. In 2011 he won a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and he has also been admitted to the Chamber Music Society Two programme of New York’s Lincoln Center. Very active as a soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras all over the world. Bram holds a professorship at the Hochschule of Cologne since 2017. He played for ten years as principal bassoonist in the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and as a regular guest principal in the London Symphony Orchestra and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Bram is known for his extremely versatile approach to bassoon playing, and for striving to realise all possible styles on the bassoon; a previous recording for BIS with bassoon concertos by Kalevi Aho and Sebastian Fagerlund won the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Award.
