Peter Friis Johansson

Peter Friis Johansson has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Musikverein in Vienna, and is a former artist in residence at the Swedish Radio classical music channel P2. His international breakthrough came in 2014 when he won first prize and gold medal at the Alaska International Piano-e-Competition. The Swedish composers Sven-David Sandström and Andrea Tarrodi have written concertos for Friis Johansson, and he has completed and premièred a concerto by Laura Netzel (1839–1927), the first Swedish piano concerto by a woman composer. As a recitalist he has won recognition for his cycles of Schubert’s piano sonatas. Besides his solo career he is a dedicated chamber musician, with long-standing partnerships with the cellists Andreas Brantelid and Jakob Koranyi and the clarinettist Emil Jonason. Peter Friis Johansson studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Anders Kilström and Mats Widlund, and in Italy, with Konstantin Bogino as his mentor. He is the founder and artistic director of the Järna Festival Academy.
