Jonas Nordberg

One of the most sought-after lutenists of his generation, Jonas Nordberg studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Royal College of Music, Stockholm. In repertoire ranging from early Renaissance lute music to contemporary soundscape explorations on various historical lutes and guitars, he has appeared at festivals such as the Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus and the Greenwich and Stockholm Early Music Festivals. As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed at major venues including the Concertgebouw Brügge, Opernhaus Bonn, Grand Théâtre Luxembourg, Herkulessaal München, Malmö Opera, and Brooklyn Academy of Music and National Sawdust in New York. His work has been broadcast on Swedish television and radio, the BBC and Deutschlandfunk. As a continuo player he has performed with orchestras such as Concerto Köln, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchester and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He enjoys an extensive collaboration with the choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström in stage works touring major European venues. In 2013 Nordberg and Kvarnström teamed up for a critically acclaimed duet, sofa(r), combining elements of dance, baroque music for lute and theorbo, electronic music and speech. This also marked his début as a dancer. Jonas Nordberg’s previous recordings for BIS include music by Vivaldi and J.H. Roman with the recorder virtuoso Dan Laurin.
